Mortal Kombat is a fighting game with 3D graphics and effects as the effects fisual moves in this game . using the set after Mortal Kombat : Armageddon , the game focuses on the earliest period in the Mortal Kombat series , Mortal Kombat Trilogy , Mortal Kombat II and Mortal Kombat 3 . The story line involves a divine protector of Earth, Raiden , trying to change after the events of Armageddon to contact his past self as he faced defeat at the hands of Shao Kahn's evil . Mortal Kombat 9 game also comes back to the roots style gameplay of Mortal Kombat series , with the fight taking place in a two-dimensional plane but the characters and levels are given in 3D .
